Xewkija - Gozo - Malta

The island of Gozo has always been invested with a special charm.  With an area of 67 square km it is the second largest island of the Maltese archipelago.  With contrast to Malta, Gozo is more hilly and has several valleys.  This makes Gozo much greener and a producer of several agricultural products.

Gozo has much to offer in the way of attractions.  In Gozo stands the oldest and one of the most imposing megalithic temples of the islands, known as Ggantija.  Following in the footsteps of the temples, Gozitan people has built several churches which became the centre of village life and a landmark of the village.  The biggest one is the Xewkija parish church dedicated to St. John the Baptist.  This church whose gigantic dome is one of the biggest in the world is less than 5 minutes walking distance far from Ta' Maria farmhouse.

Midway between Victoria and Mgarr harbour lies the village of Xewkija with its 3000 habitants.  Characterised by the Rotunda church, Xewkija offers stunning landscapes including Mgarr ix-Xini Valley and bay and the services of supermarkets, restaurants, banking facilities, butchers, pharmacy, diving centres and everything you may need for your holiday.
